Mr. Anthony D. Pickering, the tree expert of CIE and Dr. Karen Woo, lecturer from the CIE Division of Applied Science have been attending a series of meetings to support the development of positive capacity building initiatives for the arboriculture and horticulture industry in Hong Kong. The development aims to align education and practice of the industry, improve the career prospects of practitioners, raise the professional standing and promote quality performance of the industry. One of the key initiatives is to develop competency standards for the industry, which will be supported by the lifelong learning platform built up under the Qualifications Framework (QF) implemented in Hong Kong.

The Greening, Landscape and Tree Management Section (GLTMS) of the Development Bureau, Hong Kong Special Administration Region, has been working closely with the Education Bureau and the Qualifications Framework in Hong Kong. It is aimed to set up an Industry Training Advisory Committee (ITAC) who will assist the industry to map sets of competency standards.
