English lecturers of CIE organized a workshop on “Writing an Argumentative Text” targeting F.3-F.5 secondary students on 24th May. Around 200 students participated in the workshop. This workshop is intended to introduce students to the argumentative writing by familiarizing them with basic terms and necessary elements of an argumentative essay; allowing students to practice writing the refutation paragraph. During the workshop, they were active in class discussions about forming arguments. As students were encouraged to challenge the premises of others, they gained knowledge and discovered new contexts for their ideas. The process helped sharpen their critical thinking skills. After the workshop, students were able to demonstrate the ability to generate evidence-based arguments and refutation.
