The term “Think Tank” is becoming popular in Hong Kong in the recent decade. But, what does a think tank do? Is there any difference between a think tank and a research department of a university? To enhance the understanding of the role and the work of think tank in Hong Kong, the College organized a visit to Hong Kong Policy Research Institute (HKPRI, 香港政策研究所) on 6 July.
Mr. Jacky Fung, the Manager and Researcher of HKPRI, gave an insightful introduction of what think tank does, and a comparison of think tanks in UK, USA, Singapore, and the mainland China. He also addressed the three main principles a think tank should follow: being independent, being transparent, and producing social impact. The student interns from Hong Kong University also shared their research projects and experience at HKPRI.
In addition to CIE students, the College opened the visit to secondary school students. The mixed participants enabled a lively and dynamic discussion with the staff and interns of HKPRI.
