To support students in developing essential management skills, the Division of Business curated the “Human Resources & Managerial Series 2026.” The series featured an engaging guest lecture, interactive workshops, and an insightful field visit. These experiences encouraged students to integrate academic concepts with real-world practices and to reflect on their growth as future human resources and business professionals.

The series began with an inspiring guest lecture by Mr Fredi Tam, Digital Marketing Manager at the South China Morning Post (SCMP) and a CIE alumnus. Mr Tam shared how SCMP leveraged data analytics, targeted marketing, and personalised content to stay competitive in the media industry. Through practical examples, he bridged theories and industry realities, emphasising the importance of strategic thinking and leadership agility in business management.

Following the industry seminar, students had the opportunity to look inward through a series of MBTI workshops led by CIE Guidance Counsellor, Ms Janet Wong. These sessions introduced the four dimensions of the MBTI assessment, helping students gain insights into their personal and working preferences. Beyond self-discovery, the workshops also brought theory to life through team-based exercises, allowing participants to explore how personality differences affect collaboration, communication, and leadership.

The series concluded with a experiential site visit to the Labour Tribunal. Students were able to observe several proceedings. This visit provided students with a direct exposure to how employment disputes are resolved under the Employment Ordinance of Hong Kong, covering commission disagreements, paid leave disputes, and the pitfalls of verbal versus written contracts. They further discussed with peers and reflected on the tribunal cases, real-world practices and implications on human resources management.

After joining the series, Chen Kaijun (HRM, Year 3) said, “The MBTI session helped us reflect not just on who we are, but on how our personalities which can shape our future careers.” Another student, Lai Yuchen (HRM, Year 4) also remarked that, “Observing a real labour dispute hearing was educational and sobering. It highlighted how small misunderstandings could lead to major conflicts. The experience reinforced the human resources principle of ensuring fairness, compliance, and clarity in employment terms.”

The Human Resources & Managerial Series 2026 exemplified CIE’s dedication to preparing students for the realities of the business world. By blending expert insights, personal development, and legal practice, the Human Resources Management (HRM) undergraduate programme empowered participants to build competence and confidence in pursuing the chosen discipline of study.
