長者生命故事工作坊 促進跨代關懷
返回Over twenty students from the Chinese for Professional Purposes (CPP) Concentration Studies of Associate Degree Programme joined the “Elder Life Story Workshop” organised by the Helping Hand Father Sean Burke Care Home for the Elderly in early November. Led by experienced social worker Ms. Cynthia Wong, the workshop aimed to deepen young people’s understanding and respect for elderly life through service learning, laying the foundation for future life story interviews.
The workshop featured a rich and thought-provoking agenda. It began with a short film screening to encourage students to reflect on the true meaning of “service” and the importance of care and companionship. Ms. Wong then offered an in-depth sharing of the personality traits and daily realities of elderly individuals, helping students to understand the challenges and resilience that come with aging.
A highlight of the workshop was the interactive role-playing session, in which students were grouped to simulate various life scenarios. This immersive experience allowed them to personally experience the emotional and practical difficulties that elders may face in everyday life. The activity not only enhanced students’ empathy but also equipped them with essential communication skills for future interviews with elderly participants.
Throughout the workshop, students demonstrated keen attention and active engagement, showing deep respect and enthusiasm. Many expressed that the experience gave them a more profound understanding of the elderly and a greater appreciation for the value of life stories.
Students will soon begin interviewing elders to document their life journeys through writing and multimedia. These stories aim to preserve cherished memories and illuminate the later stages of life, offering wisdom and inspiration to younger generations.
The workshop was not merely a learning activity, it marked the beginning of meaningful dialogues across generations, embodying the essence of service learning through heartfelt human engagement.
