國際學院同學赴峇里島展開生態學習之旅
返回In summer 2026, 15 CIE Associate Degree students coming from Environmental Conservation Studies, Geography Resources Management, Life Science and Creative Communication Concentration Studies embarked on a 7-day study tour experience in Bali, Indonesia. The tour was designed thematically to cover four key areas, including sustainability and the environment, cultural immersion, service learning, and adventure and exploration.
In the area of “Sustainability and Environment”, the students experienced it throughout the trip, living in award winning designed bamboo constructed homes, daily eating meals which were prepared by chefs using locally sourced, non-meat ingredients to provide a huge variety of options throughout the stay, and to learn about as well as to take part in organic farming practices.
With “Cultural Immersion” –students engaged with local students to learn Balinese style dancing, and with the local Mepantigan organisation, participated in a wild drum circle and dance. These activities were full of energy and the student engagement reached fever pitch. On a gentle side, students paid a visit to the local markets and purchased locally sourced ingredients, to cook by putting on a Hong Kong spin on the recipes.
A unique opportunity to spend half a day at the Annika Linden Foundation allowed students to learn about the difficulties and challenges faced by those with mental and physical disabilities – meeting some of the youth, who had mobility issues, speech impediments etc. A volunteer amputee (below the knee) scheduled for receiving a prosthesis, was an opportunity for our students to go through the preparatory process of measuring and casting the limb directly for a template, before proceeding to the workshop to learn how the prosthetic limb is constructed.
No trip can be without a sense of “Adventure and Exploration” – and here students experienced many firsts in the lifetime so far, whether summiting a local volcano, kayaking through a mangrove forest, team work to build a raft to travel downstream, or to snorkel on a coral reef teeming with marine life.
Students showed perseverance, teamwork, active engagement, confidence, and even tolerance throughout the trip. Beyond the fun and excitement, students not only built memories but also developed character on the study tour.
