1. Provide a basic understanding of social justice and its different underlining values and principles including equality, human rights, freedom and virtues in different political perspectives;
2. Provide an understanding of the rationale, dynamics and interactions of different actors of social movements in modern societies;
3. Identify and analyse different causes, development, patterns and strategies of selected social movements in local context, with reference to the experience of other countries;
4. Discuss relevant theories about the emergence of social conflicts and social movements as a result of the unique social, economic and political structure in a territory and its relation to social justice and the civil society.

1. Promote students’ understanding of the basic principles and limits of scientific inquiry and their relation to social research.
2. Develop basic knowledge of skills of conducting quantitative and qualitative research.
3. Enhance students’ critical thinking in evaluating their own and others’ social research studies.
4. Evoke students’ awareness of doing evidenced-based social research to evaluate feasibility of current and to-be implemented social policies in Hong Kong context.

1. Provide a basic understanding of the relevant theories about communications, networking, team building and liaison with stakeholders of the non-profit-making organizations.
2. Provide an understanding of the patterns of formal and informal communications within the organizations as well as the management of conflicts and differences
3. Develop an understanding of the processes and strategies of actual network building, community liaison and publicity works initiated by these organizations;
4. Discuss the problems, roles and challenges of non-profit-making organizations in specific areas such as image building, resource developments and service promotion.

1. Develop students’ understanding of the concepts of comparative social policies, and to appreciate the relationship between comparative social policy studies and production of social welfare in relation to social needs and human rights;
2. Appreciate the changes taken place in the global welfare context, and to examine the continue and change in comparative social policies relevant to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong as well as other related regions.
3. Examine different policies in foreign countries and to evaluate their implications for social policy in the local scene with the emphasis on the concepts of policy and knowledge transfers in different societies or cultures.
4. Develop a systematic approach to comparative social policy analysis.
