These Life Science students learnt General Toxicology in the first semester. After that, they went to visit a local 3rd-party testing laboratory called TUV Rheinland HK in Tsuen Wan. In this photo, they were learning the background of testing and certification industry. They arrived at the entrance of the XRF lab, which checks the toxic heavy metal levels in electrical and electronic products.Then, they followed the staff to reach the GC-MS and LC-MS lab where there are nearly a hundred chromatographs working 7/24 to check the toxic organic substances in consumer products such as toys and juvenile products, and textile and garments.TUV Rheinland HK also provides testing services on Toys and Juvenile Products. This picture shows a staff following a European standard method to check the "small parts" and "sharp points" for a juvenile product.Students found it interesting in the acoustic test on a toy car. This test is to measure the noise levels as received by a child. The room is surrounded by soft wall covering.At last, they came to the electrical lab where they learned how batteries are being tested for electrical safety according to standard methods.At the end, some of the students decided to apply for the summer internship offered by government recogised third-party testing labs.
