To enrich campus cultural life and promote students' appreciation of classic films, the Division of Arts and Languages (Cultural Studies CULS) and the Division of Communication (Film, TV, and Digital Media FTDM) jointly organized two screenings and post-screening talks in September and October 2024: Roy Andersson’s The Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (2014) and Peter Greenaway’s The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989). The events attracted many film lovers who came to the screening and had an in-depth discussion and sharing afterward.

The post-screening talks were hosted by lecturers Wilkins Cheung and Dickson Cheung. Wilkins led with the aesthetics of set design, shot composition, colour scheme, camera movement and lighting; Dickson supplemented with thematic and theoretical issues. Both screenings were very well received by a passionate audience of both the associate degree and the self-funded degree programmes, such as BCI - Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Cultural Studies and Creative Industries, and BCW – Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Writing for Film, Television and New Media.

The two Divisions will carry on with the meaningful collaboration that attracts the uninitiated movie-goers and unites the hardcore movie buffs in quest for the cinematic beauty and interdisciplinary learning.

Please stay tuned for more in the remainder of 2024.
