To enrich campus cultural life and promote students' appreciation of classic films, the Division of Arts and Languages (Cultural Studies CULS) and the Division of Communication (Film, TV, and Digital Media Studies FTDM) jointly organized a screening and post-screening talk in September 2026: Sergei Parajanov’s The Color of Pomegranates (1969).

The post-screening talk was hosted by lecturers Wilkins Cheung, Sidney Chan, and Dickson Cheung. Wilkins led with an introduction to the genre of biopics. Sidney took us to a deep dive in ethnic liminality and Armenian folk art. Dickson supplemented with Parajanov’s impact on the Indian filmmaker Tarsem Singh and fashion designer Eiko Ishioka. The event was very well received by a passionate audience of both the associate degree and the self-funded degree programmes, such as BCI - Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Cultural Studies and Creative Industries, and BCW – Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Writing for Film, Television and New Media.

The two Divisions will carry on with the meaningful collaboration that attracts the uninitiated movie-goers and unites the hardcore movie buffs in quest for the cinematic beauty and interdisciplinary learning.

Next up in October 2026: Christpher Nolan’s indie debut – Following (1998). Stay tuned.
