To enrich campus cultural life and promote students' appreciation of classic films, the Division of Arts and Languages (Cultural Studies CULS) and the Division of Communication (Film, TV, and Digital Media Studies FTDM) jointly organized a screening and post-screening talk in October 2026: Christopher Nolan’s Following (1998).
The post-screening talk was hosted by lecturers Wilkins Cheung, Charlie Fung, Sidney Chan, and Dickson Cheung. Charlie Fung covered a wide range of topics, from low/no budget production process to the characteristics of film noir. Dickson supplemented with the moral paradoxes brought about by Nolan’s signature manipulation of narrative timelines and some other examples of temporal manipulation in storytelling. The event was very well received by a passionate audience of both the associate degree and the self-funded degree programmes, such as BCI - Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Cultural Studies and Creative Industries, and BCW – Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Writing for Film, Television and New Media.
The two Divisions will carry on with the meaningful collaboration that attracts the uninitiated movie-goers and unites the hardcore movie buffs in quest for the cinematic beauty and interdisciplinary learning.
Next up in November 2026: Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure (1997). Stay tuned.
