We are proud to share that this year, over 90% of our Geography and Resources Management (GRMG) Concentration Studies students will be continuing their studies in bachelor’s degree programmes. Impressively, over 70% have successfully articulated to senior-year places in local government-funded universities, including:
Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSocSc) in Geography – The University of Hong Kong (HKU)
Bachelor of Science in Geography and Resource Management – The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Geography – Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU)
In addition, our graduates have been accepted into other relevant degree programmes across Hong Kong’s publicly funded universities.
This outstanding achievement reflects the dedication of our students and the strength of the GRMG curriculum at CIE, which integrates academic rigor with practical field experience and professional development.
We are excited to share the reflections of some of our GRMG graduates who will be continuing their studies at HKU and CUHK, as they look back on their learning journeys at CIE and how it has shaped their academic and career aspirations.
Poon Wai Lam, Emma - 2025 GRMG Graduate
Through enriching learning opportunities at CIE—such as the Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark Study Tour in China and my internship at the Asia Energy Studies Centre at Hong Kong Baptist University—I gained valuable practical insights. These ranged from geopark management strategies to fostering sustainable collaboration among stakeholders in energy conservation.
The dedicated lecturers at CIE played a crucial role in helping me build strong analytical skills by guiding me through contemporary challenges. They especially supported my understanding of the socio-political dimensions of resource management conflicts, as well as the foundational importance of physical geography, ecology, and nature conservation.
Looking ahead, I aspire to apply this knowledge to contribute to transforming Hong Kong into a truly sustainable city—where environmental protection and urban development advance hand in hand.

Ip Man, Anna - 2025 GRMG Graduate
Over the past two years at CIE, I have experienced significant personal and academic growth. I discovered my passion, interests, and career goals in geography, while also gaining valuable hands-on experience through an internship at the Asia Energy Studies Centre, Hong Kong Baptist University, and field trips to locations such as Sha Lo Tung in Tai Po. These experiences have made me more resilient, confident, and better prepared for my future career.
The lecturers at CIE taught me that opportunities do not just come to you—you have to actively seek them out. Inspired by this mindset, I became an Eco-Ambassador with the Hong Kong Wetlands Conservation Association. Through this volunteer role, I developed my interpersonal and guiding skills by educating residents about the overwintering migratory behavior of butterflies.
Looking ahead, I hope to further my studies in geography and contribute my knowledge and creativity to fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature in Hong Kong.

Kwok Cheuk Ling, Elaine - 2025 GRMG Graduate
Studying at CIE has opened up a wide range of opportunities and experiences that have enriched both my academic journey and my resume. Over the past two years, I have participated in various internships and volunteer services, gaining not only geographical knowledge but also practical experience that has prepared me for future studies and career development. These diverse opportunities have significantly enhanced my competitiveness.
Experiencing the real-world workplace has been essential in helping me refine my career goals and academic direction. The professional guidance from CIE lecturers, especially through the GRMG courses and a variety of field trips, has deepened my understanding and provided a solid foundation for connecting with future degree programme.
CIE has also helped me unlock my potential across different courses, allowing me to fully leverage my strengths. I have learned to approach problems creatively and consider multiple stakeholder perspectives, which has helped me break free from conventional thinking. The supportive learning environment and encouragement from lecturers have made my academic journey more comfortable and fulfilling.
Additionally, the general education courses have contributed to my holistic development. Through my studies, I have come to understand how geography is closely linked to social development. This has made me more attentive to local current affairs and more aware of the importance of sustainable development in shaping a better society.

Chan Cho Wang - 2025 GRMG Graduate
Studying at CIE has provided me with a wide range of resources and opportunities that have deepened my understanding of the world—especially through case studies focused on Hong Kong. Over the past two years, I have participated in numerous field trips that allowed us to independently explore different parts of the city. These hands-on experiences are invaluable for geography students, as they enable us to observe and engage with geographical concepts in real life, beyond the classroom.
Such immersive learning experiences have greatly enhanced my understanding of lecture content and made my academic journey more engaging. One of the most meaningful opportunities was serving as President of the GRMG Society “Utopia” over the past year. This role helped me develop key skills in communication, event planning, and—most importantly—confidence.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue studying geography and apply the knowledge and experiences I have gained at CIE. My ultimate goal is to become a geography teacher, where I can inspire the next generation to explore and appreciate this dynamic and essential field.
