The Division of Business organised a kick-off training workshop for their annual B-DARE Business Simulation Competition. With great honor, Subway, the world’s largest submarine sandwich brand, is the sponsor partner this year.

At the welcoming speech, Dr. Connie Li, Division Leader of the Division of Business, expressed her appreciation of the family-like and close-knit culture of Subway. Subway’s management aims to develop close relationships with their partners and employees, treating everyone as if they are part of one big family.

Mr. Jamie Lebrun, General Manager, Subway Hong Kong and Macau, shared with students the setting up of Subway. Subway being the world’s largest submarine sandwich chain started its business in Hong Kong in 2008 and now operates 48 branches in Hong Kong and Macau. The brand faced a lot of challenges when developing its business in Hong Kong and China, from cultural differences to the high rent and labor costs. Mr. Lebrun is looking forward to hearing the students’ business proposals to make the Subway brand more successful in the Hong Kong market.

Students will be organised into several groups to join the competition with their creative business strategies for the restaurant. The final competition, with Mr. LeBrun as the judge, will be held in March 2024.

The B-DARE Business Simulation Competition is one of the signature events of the Division of Business. The competition aims to provide a chance for students to put their business theories and knowledge into practice by writing a realistic business plan. It also provides a partnership opportunity between the division and the industry.
