The Student Development Centre (SDC) has launched the CIE Service Learning Programme aiming to provide a platform for students to get in touch with different segments of people in society.  Apart from raising students’ awareness of the need of vulnerable groups, it is hoped that service learning can help strengthen students’ critical thinking on social issues and cultivate their civic awareness.

Before the official launch of the programme, SDC had invited representatives from various non-government organisations on the training day to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills for serving different target groups of the Service Learning Programme.

Students were then arranged to join community services organised by Happy Tree Social Services Limited and Lions Club of Hong Kong Shouson Hill.  The services they provided included home cleaning for the elderly living alone in Lam Tin, and a city-hunting game at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade for children from single-parent families.

All students joining the programme have learned a lot about how to respect and serve people in need and they found the experience truly meaningful.
