As online shopping becomes increasingly popular, a smooth transaction process is one of the key elements to the success of operating a business online. To enhance students’ understanding in handling online transaction, the Division of Applied Science recently organised a workshop entitled “PayPal’s Internet payment system and online fund transfer”. Ms. Helen Chan, Senior Business Consultant of PayPal Hong Kong Limited was invited to introduce the operation of PayPal’s payment system to the students.

Ms. Chan briefly introduced the background of the use of online transaction in the business world today. She also demonstrated how to operate a PayPal merchant account and explained the logic behind. It was then followed by a Q&A session where students were able to clarify their concepts.

Martin Tai (Computing Studies, Year 2) found what the speaker said most enlightening: “PayPal is the most important online payment method which has been widely used around the world. The platform provides a reliable transaction method which enables people to start their businesses through the internet and reach different customers in the global market. I think understanding the operation of such contemporary technology is very important to computing students, and I have learnt a lot from the sharing of the speaker.”
