CIE is committed to contributing to different sectors of the community through various social services. Dr. Theresa Cunanan, Senior Lecturer at CIE was invited by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) to share her personal experiences with non-Chinese speaking students from local schools about overcoming obstacles.

Launched in 2010, “Uniquely Me!” is a youth development programme organized by the EOC. It aims to provide a platform for Hong Kong’s youth to engage in dialogues on issues relating to diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Cunanan talked about how one’s non-Chinese heritage can be a brilliant fusion recipe for turning limitations into strengths in a place like Hong Kong. Her doctoral research degree is in the education of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. She mentioned that if students want to make their dreams come true, they need to persevere. When asked about racial issues in Hong Kong, Dr. Cunanan said, “We have to learn to become the bigger person in order to break stereotypes.”
