Beside the academic achievements, I participated in various ‘green’ activities. For example, I joined the Green Photo Competition and Green B-Dare Business Plan Competition, both of which provided me a chance to promote green message on campus. In addition to lectures, the Concentration Studies of Environmental Conservation Studies at CIE provided laboratory works and field trips to help us prepare further studies and build up knowledge in the conservation field. Besides, what I appreciated most was the internship opportunity within the programme. I definitely gained much conservation related experience and have a solid understanding about conservation.

Geography and Resources Management

CIE provides diversified experiential learning activities, and I was given plenty of opportunities to take part in personal growth activities, as well as local visits and overseas exchange programmes. During my visits to Taiwan and Thailand, I had the privilege to meet with the officials from the Government and practitioners of environmental groups, besides visiting different local organisations.

The internship programme allowed me to gain more about specialised knowledge which was not covered in class. During my internship in Mai Po to conduct a wetland biodiversity project, I opened my eyes to the different species, and various methods to collect samples such as fish, spiders, bees etc. All these are valuable and useful in my current study as well as future career.

CIE emphasises General Education. The GE courses train our critical thinking and the interdisciplinary courses help me understand the part of food management in my Concentration Studies. For instance, I learnt marketing strategies from the Business course and promotion techniques from the Communication course. The courses are very effectively delivered and they prepare me well for my future career in the nutrition field.

I joined the summer internship programme at the Department of Biology of HKBU. It was remarkable. I learnt more about environmental science and my analytical techniques was strengthened. And I had the chance to use a wider range of laboratory instruments, e.g. mass spectrophotometer and centrifuge.
