For 6 years consecutively, the College Journal of Culture and Literature, This and That has been the invaluable student publication that honours the College’s writing talent in English. In September, over 50 alumni and students joined the Zoom launch and celebrated the successful publication, both online and in print, of This and That vol. 6 2020, the biggest edition ever.

This year, led by lecturers from the Division of Arts and Languages, a 20-strong student editorial board, comprising students from Cultural Studies (CULS), Professional Communication and English Studies (PENG), and Bilingual Studies (BLLS), vetted and edited poetry, short stories, and essays on film, culture and literature submitted through a college-wide call for submission. 15 pieces were finally selected for this issue, categorised under art and language, films, Hong Kong, poetry, and short stories.

Dr. Liang Man-yu, Associate Head, inaugurated the Zoom launch event with an inspiring speech. He encouraged students to forge ahead by quoting a line from a student’s poem, “there’s always tomorrow.” Dr. Theresa Cunanan, Senior Lecturer, delivered a moving reading of Salini Nair’s poem, “Change,” giving our students a much-needed boost to prevail against all odds.
