CIE Students from the Higher Diploma in Art Tech Design programme stepped outside the classroom to engage in a four-day, three-night “ART TECH Voyage” course in Japan. This course allowed students to explore Japan's advancements in art and technology, broadening their horizons and enriching their experiences. The Higher Diploma in Art Tech Design programme aims at equipping students with the necessary knowledge of art, culture and technology and demonstrating creativity and aesthetics through the integration of art and technology, thus meeting the needs of workplace requirement in the Art-Tech and creative industries.

The four-day itinerary was designed with exciting activities. In addition to visiting renowned sites such as Ginza Sony Park, METoA Ginza, TeamLab Planets, and the National Museum of Modern Art, students also engaged in exchanges with faculty and local students at Waseda University, Chiba Institute of Technology, and TCA College of Arts. They learned more about how Japan innovates traditional art and the development of emerging fields such as art and artificial intelligence creation in recent years. More than that, students also grasped the opportunity to explore the rich Japanese history and culture, visit many famous attractions such as Sensoji Temple and Skytree, to appreciate the blend of tradition and modernity in Japan.

The programme invited Mr. Eric Siu, a Hong Kong-born new media artist currently based in Japan, to share the idea and process of his interactive project Touchy. He explained that the creation was to bring people closer together. The students found the session highly inspiring and gained valuable knowledge from the experience. They enjoyed interacting with different artists, exchanging insights on the understanding of art and design, and thinking about the influence of Art Tech on creativity, society, and daily life.
