The CIE Debate Union held its first debate camp in January. The one-day camp, which was open to new and experienced debaters alike, opened with a lecture on the fundamentals of parliamentary debate by Dr. Lucas Scripter, lecturer in charge of the Debate Union. Following the opening lecture, students participated in a demonstration debate to model the activity for new debaters.

After a team lunch, the debate camp continued with a special focus on international issues. Students discussed and debated policies related to issues of global terrorism and the Syrian refugee crisis.

Students found the camp useful in preparing for upcoming competitions. As SOO Chun Kwan Animus (Year 1 Psychology) commented, “It’s preparation that leads to success, and this camp is perfect for our challenges ahead.”
