CIE was honoured to have Mr. Reto Renggli, Consul General of Switzerland to Hong Kong and Macau, present a talk entitled “Swiss Diplomacy—Switzerland and International Diplomacy ”on 18 February. The talk provided an overview of Switzerland’s distinctive political institutions and its reputation in international relations.

Mr. Renggli also shared his observations on cultural differences between Hong Kong and Switzerland. The talk ended with a lively Q&A session covering a wide range of questions about Swiss culture and diplomacy.

The event was widely received as interesting and educational. CHING Tsz Lok (Year 2, Journalism) described the talk as “an unforgettable experience” to learn about another culture. Students left with greater knowledge and appreciation for Switzerland’s distinctive model of government and its role in international diplomacy. As SOO Chun Kwan (Year 2, Psychology) commented, Hong Kong might learn from Switzerland’s unique model: “There are lots of similarities between Switzerland and Hong Kong. Switzerland’s success demonstrates how government strategies can make a difference.”
